Definition by WHO

GMP is quality assurance on safety of pharmaceutical products, cosmetics or food.
WHO, World Health Organization defines GMP as the following;
" Good manufacturing practice (GMP) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. "

GMP in Japan/GMP Standards of JHNFA

GMP is regulated in many countries, such as the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)/Quality Systems (QS) Regulations promulgated by US FDA, U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In Japan, phermaceutical GMP is also regulated as a requirement for manufacturing and sales license of pharmaceutical products by MHLW, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Some of food industrial organizations including JHNFA have provided individual standards mostly derived from pharmaceutical GMP regulations.
To ensure food safety, GMP standards of JHNFA are cosisted of the following three main points;

  • Manufacturing Management
  • Quality Control
  • Hygiene Control
